On the 10th of September 2009 legendary woodworker James Krenov passed away. I never had the pleasure of meeting Jim, but in my short time here at The Centre for Fine Woodworking I have definitely felt his influence.
Principle Tutor of The Centre, John Shaw, studied at the College of the Redwoods under Jim and speaks very affectionately of the man who had a profound impact on him as Furniture Designer and Maker. I have had the pleasure of working with a Shooting Plane crafted by Jim and wish Id had the chance to thank him for the pleasure which such a wonderful tool gave me.
Below is Full-Time student Glen McNeilys take on a classic James Krenov design. The Writing Desk which accompanies a Chair made by Glen earlier in the year is made from American Walnut and Rock Maple.
