Those of you whos houses received a few shakes in the recent earth quake should spare a thought for Chris and Carli Feltham-their house is Shaken all over. Chris started the project several decades ago and met stiff opposition from building inspectors etc. but he wouldnt be shaken, from his goal of cladding the house with wooden shakes. Shakes are tiles of wood made without the use of machines, (hand shakes?). Initially they have a shimmery yellow patina (golden hand shakes?), but fade over time.
???
Once I got the bug for this type of cladding, I just couldnt shake it off
"It took a while to nail the process of attaching them to the wall"
"The magnificent view against the walls of the house is difficult to shake from the memory"
Stacks of timber donated by the Felthams for making mock ups at the Centre.
The team from the full time course loaded up a van and a trailer with timber from the Felthams, then were treated to coffee, delicious muffins and an interesting tour of the Felthams home. Time marched on and eventually we had to shake a tail feather, and get back to the wood work centre.
