easy wood projects
Theres a huge ridge of high pressure over us at the moment which means that Nelson is living up to its reputation as the sunshine capital of New Zealand. Clear, frosty mornings not only guarantee a nice vista on the way to the workshop, but the drop in temperature has meant that we are having to think twice before gluing up. The emulsion can separate if it gets too cold, leading to a "curdled" concoction which wont set at all. For the past few weeks we have been warming up our glue to ensure it does what we need it to do, and have moved the vacuum-press into a smaller room where we can get the heaters going full blast. No surprise that its quite a popular place to work at the moment out of the chill!
To warm up this morning I had a look through the photos that fellow student Andy Ness kindly left for me to blog...
In the mid 80s John was invited to spend a year with James Krenov at the college of the Redwoods. Back then, upon completion of a piece of work, it was customary for people to buy a round of local Elephant beers and burn their mock up to celebrate.
We followed suite under the Eucalyptus trees last Thursday evening..
At the moment were steam-bending with David Haig. Ill see who I can pinch some pictures from this week for a bendy blog sometime soon..
