by Jeff GillhamPart of the steam bending module involved a visit to the tutor, David Haigs home and workshop. The task to be accomplished was thicknessing the laminations for the stools we were making, using the big SMC belt sander:

Then Dave showed us how to really do extreme woodworking, operating the machine as it was intended to be used in 1896-completely unguarded:
