Achieving a nice even mitre joint is a problem most woodworkers will have come across. It can often be very difficult to get even pressure on the pieces to be jointed, especially when only joining one corner (as below).
The photo below shows how two pieces of MDF are used to keep the pieces from slipping outwards as pressure from G clamps is applied from above. When using this method to glue mitre joints it is very important to do a dry run as the clamping process is quite complicated.
The joint shown is an armrest for an American Oak Chair being made by resident craftsman Torkild Hansen chair.
