easy wood projects
The up-cycled chair - by Tash
Earlier this year I was given a load of timber from an old loom - it was a huge old loom and the owner who was moving was going to trash the whole lot.
Anyway, I ended up with more silver beech and rimu than I could fit in my car. Good old John saved the day picking up the rest in the White Whale. Much of the wood was only good for firewood, so we had a cosy winter at home with lots of easy to light kindling.
I used quite a bit making simple frames, shelves and boxes - but the biggest project was the Up-cycled Chair.
I had a commission for the chair that I made as my final project last year - the lady was more than happy to have it made from the old silver beech. Ideally I was going to upholster in vintage frabric so it would have been totally up-cycled (except of course for glue and oil) - however the customer chose their own fabric, which was beautiful and suits the chair so well.
The chair was to be my final final project at CFW - I was sad to leave for the second time, Ive now moved up to the Coromandel where I am setting up my own workshop...
Thanks so much to all at CFW for such support post graduation, I had a great six months back in the workshop to cement the learning of last year and put it into place working by myself - what a great place, were lucky to have it here in New Zealand !

I did manage a totally up-cycled project - using mildly mismatching offcuts and an old checky blankie to make this stool!
