Apply wood glue to the support blocks for the center shelf, and set the shelf in position. drill and countersink pilot holes in the side of the bookshelf, and attach the shelf with 2" wood screws (image 2).. Sand the whole bookshelf down with a high grit sandpaper (400+) and then remove any dust off of the wood. apply the wood stain generously with a microfiber rag and use a brush to get the tight spots. let this air out and dry before completing finishing your bookshelf with a solid coat of polyurethane..
